CCNA Routing and Switching 640-802 exam course details
Certification: Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching - Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching
The CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam tests whether or not the candidates have the adequate skills and knowledge regarding installation, operation and troubleshooting of the enterprise branch network. The CCNA Routing and Switching 640-802 also tests the above knowledge and skills of the candidates. This certification test is no longer available as it has been replaced by the new composite exam CCNA Routing and Switching 200-120 certification exam. This certification exam includes topics that are related to network security, routing, switching, IP addressing, WAN technologies, TCP/IP and so on. Cisco has provided a course detail for this exam so that the candidates can prepare for it according to that details. Let’s have a look at the course details of the CCNA Routing and Switching 640-802 certification exam.
Data network operation
This portion covers topics that are related to network devices and their operations. Since this is a certification related to networking, it is a must to at least know about basics of networking and various types of networking devices. Besides that the candidates must also learn about the operations of the network devices. Understanding the concept of the TCP/IP, OSI, network protocols, LAN operations and WAN operations is also a must. They need to have knowledge about how data flows in the network and how basic protocols operate in the TCP and OSI models. They need to cover the components that are required for internet and network. So, basically in this portion the candidates will have to learn about all the data network operations, flow of data and about various types of network protocols.
Implementation of switches
The CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam is bound to have portion that is dedicated to the implementation of switches. The first thing that the candidates must learn about is to choose the right kind of ports, connectors, cables and medias that is to be used to connect the switches to other hosts or devices. It also covers topics that are related to the Ethernet technologies, network segmentation, remote access management, management of traffic, VLANs, inter-VLAN routing and so on. First and foremost the candidates must learn how to operate the Cisco switches and some of its basic concepts. They also need to know about the initial configuration of switches and implementation of switches. The verification of network status, security for switch and switching technologies are also an important part of this portion. The resolving of various switches related issues also fall in this portion.
IP addressing
The CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam revolves around IP addressing as well. The candidates must know the importance of IP addressing and why they are needed in the networking. Besides they need to practice how to create and addressing scheme and apply in a network. This portion covers topics that are related to assign and verification of IP addresses to various devices, hosts and servers, DNS operation, NAT operation, protocols related to IPv4 and IPv6 and so on. Besides that the resolving methods of IP related issues are also important part of this course.
Routing
Configuration and troubleshooting of routing operations is another portion of this certification exam. The candidates must learn about various types of methods that are related to routing and routing protocols. The other topics that they have to cover are OSPF, EIGRP, SSH, telnet and routing security. The major part of this portion is covered by the implementation and troubleshooting of routing issues.
Implementation of routed network
A routing certification exam course details is never complete without the coverage of basic routing concepts. The candidates should learn about the operations of Cisco routers and how they work. Besides that they must also learn about the cables, connectors, ports and medias that are used to connect the routers with other hosts and devices. The accessing and utilization of the router CLI is also important topic. It also includes topics like configuration of device, device interface, network connectivity, OSPF, EIGRP, SSH, telnet and so on. The candidates should also cover the concept and topics related to router security, troubleshooting of issues related to routing, routing protocols and so on.
WLAN
Wireless media and devices are an important part of networking. So, it is a must that the candidates know various wireless medias, importance of wireless networks and their components, configure the wireless network, security related to wireless and so on. They must also learn about identifying the issues that are related to wireless networks and how to solve them.
Security issues
The network has been facing a lot of security threats and issues these days. The CCNA Routing and Switching certification also contains a portion which is related to the network security and threats. The candidates must know about some of the popular network security threats that have been revolving in today’s world. They must know the important of implementing policies that are related to network security. They must understand the importance and functions of various security applications. At the end of this portion they must know how to choose the right security practices for the right network security threat.
ACL and NAT
The ACL (Access Control List) and NAT operations are important part of networking. The CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam contains questions that are related to the types of ACLs and their purposes, application of ACL and their configuration, operation of NAT, troubleshooting of issues related to NAT and configuration of NAT.
WAN links
In this portion the candidates will have to learn about various types of methods through which they can connect to WAN and configuration of frame relay, WAN serial connection and PPP connection. Besides this portion also covers the implementation issues related to WAN.
These are the topics that are asked in the CCNA Routing and Switching 640-802 certification exam. If the candidates cover all these portions then they are bound to get good marks in the certification exam.
